A well-masked downlight (or a recessed ceiling light) is for visual comfort very important in the room. Particularly when the lights in the luminaires radiate across the surface, the light cone can annoying glare. Through reflectors with sliding parabolic focal points and shields, light emerges above the shielding angle prevented. For darklight reflectors, the shielding angle is equal to the cut off angle. Until you can see the light source directly, there is no direct glare. Computer workstation lights, for example, need a beam angle of 40°.
