Poul Henningsen's vision for the PH Artichoke Glass dates back to 2008, but its origins can be traced to the 1927-31 creation of the PH Septima glass light. The Septima, featuring seven glass shades, was manufactured by Louis Poulsen until 1940 when it was discontinued due to a lack of raw materials during the war.
When tasked with developing a lighting solution for the Langelinie Pavillonen restaurant in 1958, Henningsen drew inspiration from his earlier work on the Septima. He was able to complete the project in just three months by building upon the innovative ideas of the Septima.
The PH Artichoke Glass, crafted from handmade sandblasted glass, closely resembles the Septima in its expression. The light diffuses through the leaves, creating a soft and comfortable ambiance.
